"Tribe Dayak Weapons"


    Mando (Mandau) is a sharp weapon like a machete derived from the Dayak culture in Borneo. Mandau is one of Indonesia's traditional weapons. Unlike the usual machete, Mandau has carvings - carvings in the blade is not sharp. Often also found additional holes in the blade which is covered with brass or copper in order to beautify the mandau blade.
   Mando (spelled Indonesian: Mandau, is a misspelling) is derived from the Dayak language of Central Kalimantan, the origin of the word "Man" which stands for "germ" which means "eat" and is formed from the word "do" which stands for "dohong "which is a typical Central Kalimantan dagger blades. So literally Mando means "eating Dohong", meaning that since since the mando weapon became popular in central kalimantan, the dohong which was the earliest knife weapon belonging to the Dayak Ngaju kal-teng became less popular or eroded by mando defeat. The popular defeat of the dohong led to the name of the machete who caught it and called it "mando".
